Nail fungus can have quite a few other causes than just the fungus itself. Some are more predisposed to this type of disease than others, some simply come in contact with various agents that favor a nail fungus infection.
It's known that onycholysis (the detachment of the nail from the nail bed) can be the cause of nail fungus, but it can also be caused by something else and create the perfect conditions for nail fungus. Also, poor peripheral circulation can lead to this nail condition.
But regardless the cause, in case you are dealing with such a problem, I'm pretty sure you've tried at least a few treatments and remedies, and you are aware that the problem is persistant. So, here are a few home remedies that you might have not tried yet.
Tea tree oil. It has been proven that tea tree oil has disinfectant properties and can lead to excellent results when used against various types of skin and nail fungal infections. This oil should be available in pharmacies and even general stores. The thing is, if you're going to use this type of oil, it's important to dilute it before applying on and underneath your nails. This stands for other oils as well.
Vinegar plus baking soda. I haven't actually tried this because I was already on treatment with ZetaClear, which actually showed results. But this mix actually worked pretty fine for a friend of mine, and he's been fungus free for a couple of years now. You'll be needing 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda and half a cup of vinegar for this solution. Apple cider vinegar may be a better choice since it doesn't smell that bad. Once the mix is even, soak your fingers, or toes in it for 15 min.
Vinegar and Listerine. This combination has been successfully used by many against nail fungus. Both agents have disinfectant properties, Listerine, or any other mouthwash products containing many bacteria and fungus effective compounds. This mix also seems to be an effective killer for athlete's foot.
